For All of you Landspeed Racers, SCTA and BNI Members:
Just a little FYI to let all of you know the Real Story behind the
Coddington Motorhome Incident.
After a rather unusual and dangerous spin out by Jo Coddington
on Course #2, the presents of the
Coddington Crew was required to strip the car down at its current
location. It was not to be moved.
Most of the crew members where waiting in the Motorhome at the
starting line. The Motorhome was
ordered to drive out to the location, just as it had done over a
half dozen of times within the last few
days. Well, the Return Road was really getting soft towards the end
of the week and the Motorhome
should have probably stayed a bit further away from the Course. But
over the years there have been
much Bigger Vehicles gotten stuck at much worst locations. (Joint
Venture - Starting Line)
While several Coddington Crew Members went to help and work to
dismantle the Roadster, a couple of
guys stayed behind to help out with the Motorhome and wait for the
local Towing Guy. The first Tow Truck got stuck before ever getting to the
Motorhome. So did the second, the third, the fourth and the fifth.
Only after getting 5 (five) Towing Vehicles stuck the drivers decided to
hook up a cable to the Motorhome. For the SOLE REASON to pull one of
there own vehicle out of the mud.
Yes, initially the Coddington Crew caused for a Tow Vehicle to come
out there. But it definitely is not there
fault, that the Towing Company has over $500K of Equipment and NO
ONE to operate it.
The entire Coddington Crew and especially Jo Coddington has really
enjoyed there first venture to the salt and is VERY SORRY for the Motorhome
incident. For that Reason and as a sign of Gratitude for everybody's
helpfulness, she sent out a very nice letter to Mike Waters on August 23rd
with a $1000.00 (one Thousand) Dollar Donation to the Save the Salt Fund.
A copy of the letter is attached at the end of this e-mail.
Surely most of you who had unkind thoughts and words over the last
few weeks about the Coddington's, where probably not aware of that nice
gesture on behalf of the Coddington Crew.
Jo Coddington ensured me, that they will be returning for the World
Final's Meet. This time without the whole Dog and Pony Show. Just to run a
Race Car and hopefully to brake a record. They Truly Thank everybody for
putting up with the Helicopter and all the cameras last time.
She also wanted to invite anybody who has any kind of helpful advise
or concern to stop by their pit. Or even if you just feel like getting a
free cold Beer, just stop on in.
Thanks for all your time.

Dear Mike,
We would like to thank you all for the efforts you and others have
done and continue to do to save what Mother Nature granted all of us.
This was our first year to Bonneville, the Boyd Coddington Crew
experienced some of the most beautiful sun rise and sunsets any of us have
had the blessing to see.
Fogie personally took me to the old course, we admired the beauty,
spoke of the countless hours all of the volunteers have spent planning,
measuring and making a beautiful course welcoming all who may enjoy the
wonders of man and machine with the beauty of the pristine salt.
Please accept our gratitude and apply the enclosed check for the
preservation of the salt. We look forward to seeing you in October.
Sincerely,
Jo Coddington
